Biofortification and antioxidant improvement of onion bulbs using calcareous algae and storage

Along the line that health-beneficial foods must also be accompanied by sustainable agricultural practices, red alga Lithothamnium sp. (Rhodophyta), frequently used for animal and human nutrition, it was shown could a biofertilizer, regarding their bioactive humic acid content, released micronization. Also, onions present well-known benefits to health are among main vegetable crops grown worldwide. Thus, objective this work evaluate effects of foliar sprays with micronized Lithothamniun on yield, mineral nutrients, flavonoids, phenolic antioxidant activity before after storage bulbs two organically onion cultivars. The activity, flavonoid content in were improved through sprays, highlighting dose 1.5 g L-1 solution.
